Joules & Escalating Energy |
|
The joule (J) is the standard unit of energy in electronics and general scientific applications. AEDs deliver their shock therapy energy in joules, most in escalating form and some in non-escalating or fixed forms.
LifeServers only sells AEDs with Biphasic waveforms. Here is what our AEDs do regarding energy distribution:
Cardiac Science’s Powerheart AEDs delivers variable escalating energy (140J – 360J) that is customized to each patient’s needs based upon a patient’s thoracic impedance.
Defibtech’s Lifeline AEDs delivers fixed non-escalating low energy (150J - 150J - 150J).
Physio-Control’s LIFEPAK AEDs delivers fixed escalating energy (200J – 300J – 360J).
- Certain AEDs have a constant low energy output which some in the medical community believe is safer.
- Certain AEDs have escalating (increasing) levels of energy which some in the medical community believes are needed to convert victims that don’t convert with the first or second shock.
- Certain AEDs read the victim’s electrical impedance and vary the shock based on the reading – higher energy for greater impedance which some in the medical community believe is the most effective.
